MEETING MINUTES 12/8/09
1st Regular Meeting
President-elect Andrea Gunner called the
first regular Sioux Falls Diversity Club meeting for December to order at
the Original Pancake House. 15 people braved the slippery roads to attend
the meeting: Kris Isakson, Duane Tewinkle, Sandy Leonard, Sandy Gregg,
Kathy Caldwell, Andrea Gunner, Emily Steinhoff, Kimberly Stockinger, Katie
Studer, Wandra Promes, Stephanie Amiotte, Carla Cooey, Bill Gassen, Lisa
Carlson and guest Mike Huether.
Andrea introduced guest Mike Huether, who is
running for mayor of Sioux Falls, and he spoke for a few minutes.
We had a very happy club this week and took in a
lot of "Happy Dollars." Emily announced that Tel Drug donated even more
winter wear, which she dropped off at Lutheran Social Services. Andrea read
a very touching thank you letter that our club received from LSS thanking us
for the winter wear that was donated.
Kimberly gave an update on her New Year's Eve
event to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. The event is on New Year's Eve
at C.J. Callaway's. Cory and the Fireflies will be providing
entertainment. Tickets are $55. The event is formal, so no blue jeans. We
have one full table of Diversity Club members attending this event. It
should be fun and support a great cause.
Tracy Vik gave an update on Project Warmup.
There are a lot of volunteer opportunities coming up related to PWU.
Friday Dec. 11 from 5-8pm we need volunteers to help set up
tables and get the Instructional Planning Center ready for Saturday. IPC is
located at 201 E. 38th Street right by Robert Frost Elementary School. Our
actual PWU event will go from 10-4 on Saturday Dec. 12 at IPC.
Come and go as you can and bring a pair of good cutting scissors. Bring
treats to share if you wish. It sounds like there will be a lot of food
provided. This is going to be a great event!

Andrea Gunner announced a list of "wish" trees
around town and encouraged everyone to help out the less fortunate this
holiday season by supporting one of the wish trees.
Lisa Carlson and Andrea Gunner inducted four new
members to our club. They are: Sandy Gregg, Katie Studer, Kris Isakson and
Emily Steinhoff. We welcome these new members and are excited to have them
become part of this amazing club.
Before closing the meeting, we went around the
table and everyone introduced themselves to our newcomers and spoke about
how they came to join this club and why the club is important to them.
There were many "fleece allergy" tears!
Our next regular club meeting will be Tuesday
December 22 at the Original Pancake House. I hope all of you will be able
to join us. Stay safe on the slippery roads!
